I recommend cutting between the petals too so that they shrink and curl, and separate. Tape your shrinky dink paper to the template so you don’t accidentally shift it and start coloring your design in. I wanted to stick to accessible materials and techniques, so I turned it into this mini bouquet using chenille stems. Leaving shrinky dink flowers partially curled will make sealing it a bit more of a challenge, however, it’s still quite doable. A large acrylic stamp mount can be slapped on the shrinky dink as soon as it comes out of the oven to flatten it. Heat the plastic until it flattens, rather than heating for a set amount of time. Once the plastic has flattened out, it can be baked for an additional 30 seconds to ensure shrinky dink plastic sheets it is fully shrunk. As it heats up, the plastic will roll up slightly and then flatten out. Stay away from water based markers or waxy colored pencils or crayons that won’t hold the colors well after heating. Select both the circle and the offset layer of the initial. Make sure the circle overlaps the edge of the initial enough to be sturdy when the final project is cut. Change the color of the circle to match the outer layer of the initial, then move the circle to a point on the initial where you’d like to attach the letter to the keyring. Select both circles and click “Align” then “Center”.

They are perfect for cute and fun projects for those who are not good at drawing. They will curl as the plastic shrinks, and they may stick to each other. If you want to skip the hand-drawing part, grab a sheet of printable shrink film and use an inkjet printer to customize your sheets. Add designs with permanent markers, or color them with colored pencils or soft pastels.

The last step is to select both the sunflower and the letter by clicking and dragging a box over top of both. You can resize the text by clicking on the letter and selecting one of the corner white boxes surrounding the letter with your mouse. I want to use a font I have saved on my computer, so I’ll select “System” and type the name of the font in the search box. With the letter still selected, click the box under the “Font” heading. Now that the image is the correct size, we can customize the sunflower keychain by adding an initial! Enter a “5” into the width box to resize the image.
